Lucy Dalley, graduated from BSc (Hons) Cyber Security in 2020 and tells us all about her role as Cyber Security Consultant at C3IA and how her course helped shape her career.
When searching for university courses, Lucy states that she was drawn to the wide range of topics on the degree including technical, business, management, law and psychology. However, it was the placement year that sealed the deal for Lucy, knowing how valuable the work experience would be. Having regularly been to Bournemouth growing up, she also knew the location, including its easy access to the beach, which would make it a great place to live and to study.
Lucy states that the placement year prepared her well for her time in industry, but the technical units really helped her relate her work back to what she studied in her assignments. Her current role as Cyber Security Consultant includes supply chain security, research and analysis, risk assessments and networking. It is this networking in particular that Lucy really enjoys as she says: “I really love Women in Cyber events and talks as I am very passionate about helping others achieve their dreams and also to help evolve and make the cyber security industry a more diverse work place.”
Lucy describes her time at BU as motivational, exciting and memorable. Her key piece of advice to others is: “Do not give up, even when it may get challenging, as it is so worth it when you get the outcomes you have been working so hard for and dreaming about.”
She also wishes that she had relaxed a little more. She said: “Relax and enjoy your time as much as you can, try not to stress too much as everything always works out and the time at uni goes so quickly.”
