Joshua Beaman graduated in 2020 with a BSc in Cyber Security Management and has gone on to launch a training company for cyber defenders, where he serves as CEO and lead defensive trainer.
Identifying a gap in the market, Joshua founded Security Blue Team in 2019 during his studies. He said: “From my understanding of the industry and some thorough research, I found that there was demand for high-quality, practical professional defensive cybersecurity certifications. I began developing a detailed syllabus that was designed to set the industry benchmark for professional qualifications.”
Joshua was later joined by fellow Bournemouth alumnus, Reece Waughman, who came on board as an account manager. The fully remote company now employs nine people across multiple countries and provides training for organisations around the world, including governments, military units, law enforcement, banks, managed security providers, and educational institutes.
The company has partnered with an organisation in the Netherlands that is providing cybersecurity training to Ukrainian refugees, as well as one in Africa that’s helping women break into the industry. It has also launched a new careers platform, called CySec Careers, designed to help security professionals find their next role, while giving recruiters and managers a platform to find talent.
Joshua said: “CySec Careers aims to be a mutually beneficial place for companies and candidates to connect. Transparency is at the heart of the platform, with all job listings requiring compensation information. Candidates can apply exclusively to the roles which meet their requirements, while organisations will be able to identify the right talent quickly and effectively for their teams.
“We’ve already built an active and engaged online community of students as part of Security Blue Team, and we’re excited to extend this to professionals at all stages of their careers.”
Looking ahead to the future of the business, Joshua said: “I’m extremely proud of the way the company is growing, as it’s great to be able to create jobs. Ultimately, we want to be the industry’s leading training provider, and continue to help people at all stages of their cybersecurity careers. As all the other areas of the business grow, I also see us becoming a knowledge and resource hub for all things cyber.”
