Tom Trowbridge is studying for a masters (MSc) in Cyber Security & Human Factors. Tom is a talented golfer, playing as part of TeamBU Golf.
After winning the West of England Matchplay Championships at Burnham & Berrow Golf Centre, Tom got recruited by a coach at an American university. During his four years of undergraduate studies at the university, Tom played for their golf team.
Following achieving a bachelor's degree (BA) in Business Administration, Tom approached Bournemouth University to further his education.
“Being unfamiliar with the application process for BU and SportBU, I met with Martin Wells (Sports Development Manager) and Martyn Thompson (TeamBU Golf Coach) to discuss the golf and scholarship programs as well as the application process to the university.
"Their professionalism and process-driven outlook to sport made it an easy decision to join the program at BU and enrol in an MSc in Cyber Security & Human Factors.
"I joined the team with a couple of small injuries and on the back of not playing a full season of golf for the previous three years through injury. Through SportBU’s injury triage, physio, massage, and personal training setup I was able to recover from my previous injuries and play a full university schedule this year.”
As part of TeamBU, Tom finished second place in the English & Welsh Universities tournament in Nottingham and finished tenth out of sixty-four merits in the national order of merit (golf points table).
“Ultimately, moving to BU was a great move for me to surround myself with like-minded people who are serious about giving themselves the best opportunity to perform well, while a management team that reciprocates the effort we put into our sport.”
Bournemouth University is one of the top universities for golf in the UK and receive ongoing support from The R&A (golf's governing body and organiser of The Open Championship) to develop our players. Find out more about sports scholarships at BU.
