National Library of Scotland: Maps

- Size/scope: access high-resolution zoomable images of over 86,000 maps of Scotland and England and Wales covering 1560 to 1961. These include zoomable colour images of the Ordnance Survey's six-inch to the mile (1:10,560)and one inch to the mile (1:63360) mapping. The easiest way of finding sheets is through a clickable graphic index using the 'Find by Place' viewer: This allows searching through a gazetteer of placenames, street names, postcodes and Grid References, as well as by zooming in on an area of interest with smaller-scale locational mapping as a backdrop.

- Level of access: screen prints may be made of these maps for non-commercial, educational and private purposes. Written permission must be obtained in advance to reproduce any digital material from the National Library of Scotland's collections, whether in hard copy or electronic forms.

- Women's writing, from Hearth and Home to the suffragist, The Vote via Women and Josephine Butler's The Dawn
- The rise of children's entertainment and education, with titles including Boys' Own and Little Folks
- Popular sports and hobbies, from gardening and horse racing to cricket and cycling
- Satirical and comic titles such as Punch, Fun, Judy and Figaro
- Newly captured images, including approximately 8,000 in colour.
