Do you know somebody who could inspire students and staff and whose impact is worthy of the highest recognition? If so, it’s time to nominate them for an Honorary Award.
What are Honorary Awards and why do we give them?
BU gives Honorary Awards (Honorary Doctorates and Fellowships) to inspire our community, recognise the contributions of individuals and to celebrate success. Recipients of Honorary Awards are presented with their award at one of our graduation ceremonies and become part of the BU community. There is no prescribed number of awards each year, although there is normally one conferred at each graduation ceremony.
We are now seeking new nominations for 2025 onwards.
Who can nominate?
All BU students – as well as members of staff, Board or Chancellery – may nominate someone to receive an Honorary Degree or Fellowship. Nominations must be submitted using the Nomination Form. Nominators are encouraged to refer to the Guidance for Nominations before completing and submitting their form.
What is the deadline for nominations to be allocated to the 2025 awards ceremonies?
The Honorary Awards Committee welcomes nominations all year round but the deadline for nominations to be considered and approved for the November 2025 graduation ceremonies is Friday 24 January 2025.
Completed forms must be submitted to [email protected] by this deadline.
Does my nominee have to have a local connection?
No. Awardees’ achievements should align with the values and mission of BU, but their work could have made an impact regionally, nationally or globally.
What if I don’t submit my nomination by the closing date?
Nominations are open on a rolling basis and can be submitted at any time of year. A deadline is set so that nominations can be allocated to a particular year’s awards ceremonies. Nominations received after the stated deadline will be held on file and considered for the following year’s ceremonies.
