Along with many others, we are concerned about the current wave of protests taking place across the UK. BU values freedom of speech and our inclusive environment where respect for one another is at the heart of our community. This applies to all our staff, students and those who are planning to join us in the autumn. This is why we have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abuse or hate crime. We support the right to protest and the right to express your opinion, but stand against violence, racism and intimidation.
Due to the current situation, please be mindful when travelling around the local area. If you have any concerns about safety on our campuses, please call 01202 962222. If you are away from campus, please dial 999 to contact the police in an emergency. If you need to speak to the police, but it is not an urgent situation, please call 101.
If you have experienced or witnessed any acts of hate crime at BU, we urge you to report this. We will investigate any reported incident in line with our hate crime policy and take action against any student or staff member who is deemed to have breached our Conduct, Welfare or Harassment policy and procedures.
Please know that we are doing all that we can at the current time to keep our staff and students safe. If you have been affected by current affairs, there is support in place to help you. As a student, you can find a range of resources to support your health and wellbeing on the website. For colleagues, there are resources from the Health, Safety & Wellbeing team on the staff intranet, including details of how to access the Employee Assistance Programme. If there is further help you need, please get in touch with your line manager, HR and/or the Health, Safety and Wellbeing team.
It is important to come together as a community and support one another so please do continue to check on the wellbeing of your friends and colleagues who may be affected by events.
