Bournemouth University students and graduates are celebrating after picking up wins at the Royal Television Society (RTS) Southern Awards 2024.
The regional awards celebrate success in the broadcast industry, with both professional and student categories.
BU students won in the Best Factual category for the film Hidden Heroes. Students Gemma Hilton, Stephen Safrette, Robbie Palmer, Jamie Baker, Oliver Curtin and Drew Duncliffe picked up the award.
There was also a win for BU students in the Best Saving the Planet category for BU documentary ‘The Eye of the Sun’ by Robyn Foster, Eve Marie Gilbert, Will Welton, Imie Bridges, and Sophie Downtown
Best camera work in the industry professional category was won by BU alum Joshua Bosley.
Isabel Forrest, Senior Lecturer in Media Production and programme leader of the Television Production degree at Bournemouth University said, “Congratulations to our supremely talented student filmmakers from the Media Production department who represented BU at last night's prestigious Royal Television Society awards. The Royal Television Society Student Television Awards are the biggest awards in the industry and provide a unique opportunity for students to get their work seen by leading figures within the television industry.
“The competition was incredibly strong, and it was great to see our students and graduates congratulating and networking with nominees and winners from other institutions.”
BU students also received further nominations in both the Saving the Planet and Factual categories.
The winners were announced at the awards ceremony, which took place at the Utilita Bowl Hilton in Southampton on Friday 17 May 2024.
