Bournemouth University has risen 17 places in the Guardian University Guide 2021.
BU now occupies 56th place in the rankings, up from 73rd last year.
In addition to the overall rankings, the Guide also produces a number of subject specific tables. BU topped the table for Social Work, coming first out of 74 universities in the subject ranking. In addition there was a top 10 place for BU in the Journalism, Publishing and Public Relations category (9th out of 57 institutions) and in the Hospitality, Events Management and Tourism subject area (10th out of 72).
BU also placed 14th out of 28 universities in the Engineering (general) table, and 19th out of 73 in the Design and Craft subject ranking.
Professor John Vinney, Vice-Chancellor of Bournemouth University, said, “I am personally so proud of the way that our staff and students have worked this year, with all its challenges, and continued to demonstrate excellence in their work and in building a friendly and inclusive community.
“We are delighted by our rise in this year’s Guardian University Guide, as we continue to progress our BU2025 vision, improve our excellent facilities through our two Gateway Buildings, and work to provide quality education and experience for students.”
The rise comes in the same year as BU rose into the top 100 of the THE Young University Rankings 2020, achieving 95th place in the table, which features universities less than 50 years old.
