Dr Miles Russell, a Senior Lecturer in Roman and Prehistoric Archaeology at Bournemouth University, has received widespread coverage on his study that claims King Arthur was not a real person.
Dr Russell claims King Arthur is a composite of at least five real characters that forms a fictitious ‘Celtic superhero’. The archaeologist came to this conclusion when he analysed a series of medieval texts that detailed the first accounts of King Arthur.
Dr Russell told The Times: “When you start to look at King Arthur in detail you realise that he is an amalgam of at least five separate characters — he never existed as an independent person at all.”
The study received widespread coverage, including The Mirror, Daily Mail and Russia Today.
