Professor Lee Miles, Professor of Crisis and Disaster Management, was invited onto BBC Radio 4's flagship Today Programme to talk about Hurricane Irma.
The Disaster Management Centre at Bournemouth University have been working with Caribbean islands on disaster management techniques, providing training on how to deal with disasters such as hurricanes.
Professor Miles spoke to presenter Justin Webb about the destruction caused by the hurricane, the resiliance of such islands to rebuild after the hurricane, and what would happen should a predicted second hurricane hit the island in the days to come.
