Over 170 bright and ambitious young people arrived at Bournemouth University at the beginning of May - all of them hoping to show off their talent at one of Channel 4’s new ‘pop-up events’.
The ‘C4 Pop Up’ is a national outreach programme of skills, workshops, challenges and networking targeted at young people with a range of different talent in areas like marketing, tv production and digital media.
Kathy Poole, Head of People at Channel 4, attended the event and was part of the judging panel to select the best work produced on the day. She said that “the C4 pop-up event forms part of a strategy that aims to support and develop young people from different backgrounds and walks of life and help them build great futures in the media industry”.
Dr John Oliver, from Bournemouth University, acted as a tutor on the marketing strand and also formed part of the judging panel. He said that “we are delighted to host Channel 4’s first national pop-up event. The enthusiasm and creativity demonstrated by such a diverse group of young people really demonstrates why the UK leads the world when it comes to creativity and media”.
C4 Pop-up workshops will also take place in London, Wolverhampton, Preston and Norwich during 2015. Further details can be found at Channel 4’s website and on their social media platforms.
