Research support

Our Funding Development Team support with the development of research ideas and submitting funding applications.

Research Facilitators work across key areas of funding: Life Sciences; Humanities and Social Sciences; Innovation and Infrastructure; and EU and International funding opportunities.

Our Post Award Team support the efficient delivery of research and knowledge exchange projects.

This includes support with project initiation and set up, financial management and project forecasting, and reports to funders.

Our Research Excellence Team support research quality, visibility and impact. This includes areas such as research outputs (including open access publishing), research communications, and public engagement with research.

The team also support the university’s preparations for the next Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF 2029), including the development of societal impact from BU research.

Our Research Governance team support research ethics, governance and compliance, including regulated research and clinical research.

The team can advise on the exploitation of research outputs and management of intellectual property, as well as sharing knowledge and research with external stakeholders.

The team manages the Research and Knowledge Exchange Framework (RKEDF), a programme of activities and opportunities for researchers and academics at all career stages to develop their skills, knowledge and capabilities.

We also support the BU Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network, which is designed to support early career researchers and postgraduate researchers (PGRs) at BU, offering general advice and support as well as tailored workshops for skills training and career development.

In addition, BU is a member of the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network, which is open to early career researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
