We're excited to announce the launch of free menstrual products across most of our buildings on our campuses. This initiative marks a significant step forward in our commitment to student welfare and advancing gender equality at Bournemouth University.
Menstrual hygiene is a fundamental aspect of wellbeing, particularly for students that may be navigating university whilst managing the high cost of living
National research consistently highlights the impact of period poverty on educational experiences, with studies showing that 13% of individuals have missed out on education due to this issue (YouGov poll, May 2023).
This new initiative is not just about providing free products—it's about creating an inclusive and supportive environment where all students can engage fully at university without the burden of additional challenges related to menstruation.
We’ve chosen period products that better for you and the environment*. Remember, please be mindful of others, and only take one if you need one so that others can benefit from the new initiative too.
If you’re facing any challenges, including access to menstrual products, there is other cost of living support available through SUBU Advice. You can also visit the BU cost of living webpages to find useful information and support.
This initiative is launched by Fatima Farha, the Vice President of Welfare and Community, and BU Estates. Let's continue working together to build a university community where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
