Internationally renowned ‘cellist Jiaxin Lloyd Webber will perform at an event at Bournemouth University, to play Bach’s suites 1,2 and 3, with insights into the music and the life of a cellist from her husband Julian.
The event will be hosted by BU’s University Music, in association with the Bournemouth Chamber Music, with the world-leading 'cellists Julian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber performing on BU’s Talbot Campus.
Jiaxin graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, has been principal cellist with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, and has performed many times with Julian.
An internationally renowned cellist: Julian no longer performs but will be sharing his insights into the life of a cellist, and a career that has taken the couple around the world. Julian founded the UK Government’s In Harmony programme, and chairs Sistema England. These programmes have involved music making for more than 60,000 school children.
The event will take their audience on a journey, with stories about their lives in music. They begin by exploring Bach’s Cello Suites, and why they remained unperformed for 200 years, before becoming some of the best loved pieces in the classical repertoire.
With the support of the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust, tickets for all 8-25 years olds are free of charge, though under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Ian Davis, Head of University Music at Bournemouth University, said, “I am absolutely delighted that Julian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber will be performing in our wonderful performance space on campus. University Music has a fantastic programme of events planned for the forthcoming academic year and, as ever, we hope that our offering reaches out not just to members of our universities but to everyone in the local community and beyond”.
