Following the successful upgrades of the lecture theatres last year, IT Services - working in partnership with our Audio Visual (AV) supplier - have been busy upgrading the equipment in the Fusion Building Seminar rooms. Find out what’s new!
More BYOD (bring your own device) connectivity
Alongside the standard HDMI and wireless presentation option we now have new USB-C video and audio connection for laptops which also provides access to the lecture capture hardware in the room, all while providing power to charge your device whilst presenting.
New simplified, streamlined and user-friendly interface for controlling the lecture theatre equipment:
- Functions like a touch phone
- Different colourscreen themes for different inputs i.e. blue = PC, pink = laptop to enable you easily identify your preferred input type
- An icon to show if the room is blanked or muted
- An icon to show if capture devices have been left muted or disabled
- Specific buttons for lighting/blind control and capture hardware where applicable
- A dedicated help button on all screens
- A QR code to the AV website where you can find guides and tutorials for the equipment in the room
- Call buttons for IT, Estates, and emergency phone lines so you can call these services directly from the lecture theatres without the need for a phone
- Ability to provide feedback on the teaching space via a QR code on the home screen.

New audio lecture capture hardware
The seminar rooms have now been fitted with enhanced audio capture for lecture capture recordings. We have also renamed the lecture capture hardware so it is easier to select the correct hardware to use; simply select “BU lecture capture” from the list of sources in Panopto and you are good to go. This hardware is now also available to use on your own devices like a laptop over the new USB-C connection.
For more information about the AV equipment available at BU visit the Audio Visual (AV) information site.
We are constantly working to enhance the user experience for all our staff and students. We plan to continue to roll these hardware changes out to all the seminar spaces and your feedback helps us to understand what’s working well and what needs improving.
Please provide any further feedback using the QR code on the seminar room control screens.
Many thanks
