We know that many of you are feeling the pressures of the cost of living increasing and we want to do all we can to support you during your time here.
During Student Money Week we ran an Instagram poll on our channel asking a few questions about cost of living. In this poll 23% of respondents shared that food was an area they felt most impacted. If you are feeling this too, you are not alone, and there is support available on our campuses to help.
You can also visit our financial wellbeing and cost of living support webpages for information and support available to help you if you are struggling with cost of living. If you'd like to chat to someone, you can always contact our AskBU Team on campus, by phone or email.
SUBU Community Kitchen
Located on the second floor of the Student Centre at Talbot Campus, the Community Kitchen is open to all BU students and staff to use throughout the year. Its main purpose is to help those who are facing difficulties during the cost-of-living crisis and are unable to afford daily essentials such as food or sanitary products. It’s also a great place to go and meet people, heat up food, look through recipe books and eat as a group.
The open cupboard and fridge are stocked with surplus food donations, so you can pop by and take what you need.
There will also be meal packs, canned and tinned food and other household items available. If you’d like access to this, please speak to the SUBU Advice Team. Who are located round the corner from the kitchen and are available between 10am and 4pm, Monday - Friday. You can also contact them by phone at 01202 965779 or by email.
The Community Kitchen also host a series of events during term time to help combat the cost-of-living crisis including a Free Breakfast Club and Monthly Supper Club. You can find out more about these events and register for a place on the SUBU website.

Think reusable
Bringing reusable cups and lunch to campus not only saves you money but also reduces packaging waste associated with take-out meals. We promote the use of reusable items to minimize single-use plastic consumption at BU and encourage all students and staff to carry refillable water bottles, with several water refill and other communal access points located across our Talbot and Lansdowne Campus.
