Fresher Publishing is a small publishing press, established at BU to nurture the publishing talent of the future and support writers from across Dorset and beyond. The team is made up of students, staff and judges.
The next Fresher Publishing magazine is focusing on re-imagining “tropes” in story and character under the theme “Reluctant Hero”.
For the chance to have your work featured in the next digital magazine, you’re invited to submit a piece of literature related to this theme. This could be submissions of poems, short stories, flash fiction, personal essays, photograph, or illustrations.
Words of inspiration include: Hesitation, redemption, regret, avoiding fate, odds against good, resisting the call, chosen by fate, brooding, questioning worth, insecurity and doubt.
Word count guidelines:
- Poetry: up to three poems in a single word document. Maximum 50 lines per poem
- Prose: up to three pieces in a single document (no more than 3000 words in the entire document)
- Illustration or photography: up to three high-quality JPEGs.
Send your submissions related to this theme to [email protected] along with a short author bio (up to 75 words) written in the third person, for the chance for your work to be featured.
Submissions are accepted from BU and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) students, staff, and alumni.
Submissions will close on Friday 16 February at 11:59pm.
