Remember your ID card while we work on Poole House
On Monday 22 May, there will be temporary barriers on the left-hand side of Poole House as you come in via the main entrance. This will prevent staff and students from accessing the stairs to the upper floors through this entrance.
Poole House reception is still open for the duration of this week. It will move to the Sir Michael Cobham Library from Tuesday 30 May. The Base has now relocated to the Sir Michael Cobham Library, there are no activities in the Shelley lecture theatre, and the cash office and Global hub have also moved so this change should present no issues for students looking for these services.
The stairs can now be accessed via the external doors to the left of the main entrance, which requires student/staff ID to enter. Please make sure you bring this with you to campus for the duration of the works.
If you have any questions, please email Jim Evans, Campus Service Manager.
AskBU is now based in Sir Michael Cobham Library
As part of our ongoing Talbot Campus remodelling project, there have been some changes to where our services operate. AskBU, who ordinarily operate from The Base in Poole House, have moved to the Sir Michael Cobham Library. You can also visit the team at the Bournemouth Gateway Building at Lansdowne Campus, or contact them via phone and email.
New active travel facilities in Poole House
We are pleased to announce that the construction of the new active travel shower and changing facilities in Poole House have now been completed. These are located in PG10 in the corridor by the main lift lobby and are open to all students and staff across the university.
To further support active travel at BU, the new facilities include separate male and female showers, as well as a gender-neutral changing room and wash basins. The showers are equipped with a mixture of daily use and dedicated lockers to store personal belongings, and there are benches for getting dressed. In addition, there is a separate drying room with drying cabinets for clothes and hairdryers. To access a dedicated locker or for more information on active travel, please contact [email protected].
The new active travel facilities have been designed with the tangerine orange colour scheme, adding a touch of energy and vibrancy to the space. The facilities are modern and accessible, and have been designed with the comfort and convenience of students and staff in mind. Included in this project was a hot water upgrade in Poole House to include the installation of a solar thermal system on Poole House roof to feed all hot water outlets to the new showers.
The project was managed by Teresa Denney, Senior Project Manager, in the Capital Development Team who said: "This project shows the benefits of collaborative working with external contractors, Rocare providing the shower facilities and our own Hard Services Team providing the heating system. The provision of high-quality shower facilities will produce significant cost saving through natural solar hot water generation for staff and students to use"
We encourage all staff and students who cycle, run, or walk to university to make use of these new facilities. By doing so, we hope to encourage more people to adopt an active travel lifestyle, reducing traffic congestion and contributing to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable environment.
