From 8:30am on Friday 28 April we will be introducing the 'Legal login banner' to all managed Windows 10 devices.
As we mentioned in comms earlier in the year this is part of our work to install additional online security measures to protect our data.
Where will I see the banner?
The banner will appear as an ‘authorised user’ statement prior to logging in to a BU managed system.
Who is classed as an ‘authorised user’?
An authorised user is anyone who has been granted a valid and active BU account and is the recorded user/owner of that account.
What will the statement say?
Depending on the type of system you are logging in to you will see one of the statements below:
Statement A |
This system is for BU’s authorised users only. Use of this system is governed by the BU Acceptable Use Policy By clicking “ok” you represent that you are an authorised user and will comply with the Acceptable Use Policy. Do not proceed if you are not an authorised user or are unsure of your status. Unauthorised access or other misuse of the IT system may be a criminal offence, result in disciplinary action or both. |
Statement B |
This system is for BU’s authorised users only. Use of this system is governed by the BU Acceptable Use Policy. By proceeding with access, you represent that you are an authorised user and will comply with the Acceptable Use Policy. If you are not an authorised user or are unsure of your status, do not proceed further. Unauthorised access or other misuse of the IT system may be a criminal offence, result in disciplinary action or both. |
Why is it needed?
The banner will remind users they should only be accessing the system in line with the BU Acceptable Use Policy. It is also designed to support BU should a legal case in relation to system misuse ever arise.
