Bournemouth University are proud to receive international recognition as the first organisation in BCP to achieve the Gold standard in Cycling UK’s Cycle Friendly Employer accreditation.
The Cycle Friendly Employer accreditation (CFE-UK) rewards companies in the UK who make their workplaces awe-inspiring through cycling. It was developed within the EU project ‘Bike2Work’, with Cycling UK the recognised provider for the UK. CFE-UK is the only international standard for workplace cycling, working in partnership with countries across Europe.
In order to gain our Gold Award we had to demonstrate a very active commitment to improving conditions for cycling across all sites within the University. As a significant employer and as one of Bournemouth’s largest journey generators, we recognise our contribution to protecting and enhancing our surroundings and wider city environment, as cycling can reduce congestion and improve air quality.
James Palser from Cycling UK said, “Bournemouth University have a long-standing programme to support cycling through effective communications, building quality cycling facilities, and partnership working. The university works with several businesses, social enterprises and Beryl, the provider of the town’s bike share scheme. Having had a travel plan in place for nearly 20 years, a wealth of data is available to show the growth in the numbers of people using active travel at the university. Cycling UK congratulates Bournemouth University on this achievement and looks forward to supporting them in encouraging more staff and students to cycle.”
Our Gold Award coincides with Bike Month. BU have joined the Love to Ride 2021 Challenge so we can, as a community, support and promote cycling this June.
