Santander Universities is currently providing financial support for 12 BU students on the autistic spectrum, through the Santander Scholars Fund.
Grants can be used for a range of purposes including purchasing specialist equipment and helping with placement costs. We are so grateful for the support of Santander Universities, which has made a massive difference.
Caitlin, a BSc (Hons) Ecology & Wildlife Conservation student, commented:
The Santander Grant has enabled me to expand my opportunities throughout University. It will allow me to potentially move out for the year and work away somewhere, gaining vital work experience and knowledge to help me in the future. I wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the grant and I am very grateful that I have been given this opportunity."
Daniel, who is studying BSc (Hons) Sports Development and Coaching Sciences, had this to say:
In the tough times that we have faced due to the pandemic, the Santander grant has really helped me financially whilst I’ve been furloughed from work. This has helped me not to worry about money and focus more on my studies. The support that they have given me is exceptional and I’m very grateful!”
Sam, a BSc (Hons) Computer Networks student, has used the grant to fund several training courses which have helped him secure a placement. He said:
Having the Santander Scholars funding to help cover the cost of this training is incredible. In my interview, it was mentioned how good it was that I had this certification.”
Sam also commented:
Next year I move to Bracknell for my placement in Farnborough. Having some money available to save for things like deposits and the like has been invaluable, certainly leading to significantly reduced stress and penny counting!”
Nick, who studies BSc (Hons) Forensic Computing and Security, also noted how grateful he is for the support:
The Santander grant has been crucial in helping me be financially stable in terms of rent and bills while at university, and has allowed me to focus more on my studies as a result which I am very grateful for. This has been especially important in the current COVID situation, where typical 'student' jobs are harder to come by.”
