‘Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma Informed Care’ workshop
This full day event was held on the 27 March, 2019 at BU's Executive Business Centre and was organised by Stefan Kleipoedszus, Lecturer in Social Work in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and a member of the Centre for Seldom Heard Voices.
The event brought together ninety social workers, police officers, teachers, people with ‘lived experience’, health professionals and drug recovery workers to learn from and with each other.
Using the World Café method, the participants worked together to identify unresolved challenges to practice and take steps towards a solution by creating Solution Sketchpads.
These discussions and subsequent plenary sessions held during the day identified realistic steps towards improving practice by overcoming barriers by using the identification of adverse childhood experience to inform ways of supporting people and preventing further trauma occurring.
One outcome of this workshop was to use the information gathered to inform existing regional strategic groups’ decision-making. These groups include children and adult social care providers; voluntary sector, education, health and police organisations; and BU Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. The plan is to develop an Action Research Project to follow up on the implementation of ideas from the Solution Sketchpads.
