This week marks Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual event to honour the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
We'd like to take this opportunity to remind you that BU and SUBU are proud to support a diverse student body and we celebrate all members of our community.
SUBU’s Democracy & Equality department oversees and runs campaigns throughout the year to support all students at BU, including LGBTQ+ students, by organising events such as PRIDE and supporting the work of the Liberation Campaigns.
The Pronoun Toolkit is a recent initiative by the Transgender and Non-Binary Students' Campaign, which represents the interests of, and connects, transgender and non-binary students at BU.
Watch the video below with Beth, BU student and Liberation Campaign Officer in 2017/18, to find out more.
You can also learn more about the LGBTQ+ community on the SUBU website which has lots of information and resources.
There are currently six Liberation Campaigns in SUBU:
- Asian, Arab and Minority Ethnic Students' Campaign
- Black Students' Campaign
- LGB Plus Students' Campaign
- Students' with Disabilities Campaign
- Transgender and Non-Binary Students' Campaign
- Women's Liberation Campaign.
Head to the 4th floor of the Student Centre and chat to staff and students in the Democracy & Equality department if you'd like to get involved.
