On 13th February 2018 BBC South Today aired a feature about the TACIT Trial on their breakfast, lunchtime, and evening news. It was also featured on their website and Facebook page, which at the time of writing has received over 15,000 views! The TACIT Trial is short for, “Tai Chi for people with dementia”, a project funded by the NIHR as part of Dr Samuel Nyman’s NIHR Career Development Fellowship.
The feature on South Today shows Dr Samuel Nyman from the Ageing & Dementia Research Centre (ADRC) talking about the study and Senior Tai Chi instructor Robert Joyce, from Elemental Tai Chi, talking about the benefits of Tai Chi. Local volunteers with dementia and their family carers are also shown taking part in a Tai Chi class and how they enjoy the classes.
The feature seems to have caught the interest of the local community and will help spread the word that we are currently recruiting into the trial from across the Wessex region (Dorset, Southampton, and Portsmouth areas). To find out more about the study please visit:
