Bournemouth University has retained its place as one of the best new universities in the world.
The university was included in the THE Young University Rankings, an annual league table compiled by the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine that identifies the best new universities across the world.
BU entered this league table for the first time in 2016, when it was called the THE 150 under 50 ranking, retaining its place for 2017. BU is ranked between 101-150 in the league table, which stretches to 200 universities in total.
Professor John Vinney, Vice- Chancellor of Bournemouth University said, “To retain our place in this league table is an excellent achievement and my thanks go to all the staff and students at BU who have made this possible. This year is our 25th year with university status and this underlines the journey we have been on as we continue to be seen as a quality university impacting the local community and increasingly becoming an influence internationally too.”
This is the second accolade in a month for the university, as BU rose 20 places in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2017. In the same survey, BU was also rated among the top 20 universities in the UK for its links with industry.
In recent months BU has also risen 20 places in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 and was shown to be fourth in the UK for the value that it adds to its degrees according to the Guardian University league table.
One such way that the university adds value for students is through its placement offer, with BU currently boasting more students on a work placement as a part of their degree than any other university in Great Britain (according to HESA data from 2015).
Professor Vinney continued, “To see such accolades continuing to come through underlines that this university is moving in the right direction, and being recognised as a quality place for learning and research, with excellent links to industry which underlines the professional practice the university undertakes. How we blend research, education and professional practice really sets us apart from other universities in the UK and we are delighted that this has been recognised in this way.”
