A team from BU's Department of Computing & Informatics took on the challenge of hosting and managing the 24th Annual International British Computing Society (BSC) Software Quality Management Conference (SQM), and the 21st Annual BCS INSPIRE conference.
The 24th Annual International SQM Conference, organised in conjunction with the BCS PROMS-G, aims to promote co-operation and greater understanding among practitioners and academics by providing an opportunity to share research and practical experience. The 21st Annual INSPIRE conference, organised in conjunction with the BCS e-Learning Specialist Group, addresses software process improvement related to teaching, training and research whilst the SQM conference addresses issues relevant to business and industry.
Although attendees were mainly from UK universities and industry, the event welcomed participants from as far as Sri-Lanka. Before arrival attendees submitted research papers in preparation for their presentation, one third of the papers were by BU students and staff which showed great participation and interest in the importance of these annual events.
Based over two days, the attendees enjoyed keynotes from Dr. José Abdelnour Nocera from Madeira Interactive Techologies Institute and Andrew Radcliffe, Head of Software Development at Ordnance Survey, plus some excellent debate on research and industrial practice presentations.
Co-chaired by Professor Keith Phalp, Professor Vasilis Katos and Dr Sofia Meacham, the team enjoyed a successful event seeing over double the numbers of attendees from last year, making the whole event a huge success.
Prof. Keith Phalp said: “It was a fabulous event, great presentations, lovely people and a real melting pot of ideas.”
Dr Sofia Meacham said: “This was a great responsibility and honour that was assigned to me from the Conference director due to unforeseen circumstances and I am pleased with the successful outcome and the overall experience.”
Robert Hughes commented after the event with the following: “I would like to thank you and the rest of the team for what was an interesting and enjoyable event.”
