A team of staff and students from Bournemouth University have had their website crowned Website of the Year at the British Journalism Training Council (BJTC) Awards.
The team won Website of the Year for their coverage of the UK Elections that took place in May, with staff and students working to provide up-to-date coverage of election news and results as it happened.
Dr Karen Fowler-Watt, Head of School of Journalism, English and Communication at Bournemouth University, said, "The BJTC award gives wonderful recognition to the energy and commitment of the students who took part in the YourElection15 project. The website represents an innovative development, which was online before and beyond the election night itself, providing rich and engaging content for its audience. I am very proud of the students and staff who made this possible."
The project, called YourElection15, had a multimedia aspect as students from the Faculty of Media and Communication worked to provide online copy for the website alongside a television broadcast streamed online and live radio coverage broadcast on Dorset radio station Hope FM.
Students were able to interview guests including Conor Burns MP and Dame Annette Brooke, as well as a number of academics and experts from Bournemouth University.
The Award was given during the BJTC Student Journalism Awards ceremony at ITN, which recognises the best student journalists in the UK on BJTC accredited courses.
Jon Godel, BJTC Chief Executive, said, “Our industry judges were very impressed with the standard of the entries, commenting they had found some journalism stars of the future.”
