A one day Symposium on 25 February 2015 organised by Conflict, Rule of Law and Society in association with the Swedish National Defence College.
Bournemouth University's Conflict, Rule of Law and Society research group, in conjunction with the Swedish National Defence College, hosted a one day event to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine. This symposium provided a platform to discuss a new form of war, 'Hybrid War', under inclusion of aspects of 'cyber-terrorism' and 'cyber-war' before the backdrop of Russia's 'Ukrainian Spring' and the continuing threat posed by radical Islamist groups in Africa and the Middle East. The interdisciplinary symposium scrutinised military doctrines, traditional approaches to war and peace and its perceptions; at the heart of the symposium was the question whether responses to such threats need to change in the future.
Speakers included Anthony Papithi, Brig (rtd), Dr. James A. Green (Associate Professor, Reading University), Margarita Jaitne, Dr. Michael Gustafson, Dr. Håkan Gunneriusson (from the Swedish National Defence College) and Professor Bill Bowring (Birkbeck College School of Law) as well as contributions from Bournemouth University by Dr. Sascha Bachmann, Dr. Melanie Klinkner and Professor Stephen Jukes.
