Borrowing - Hospital Library

As a current Bournemouth University HSS student, you may borrow up to 12 items (books and journals) at any one time from the Hospital Library. Most books can be borrowed for 4 weeks. You can renew in person, by phone or online, provided nobody else is waiting for the item in question.

While you will not be charged fines for overdue loans, you will receive reminder emails (three days before the book is due back) and letters; if you do not return your books you will be charged replacement costs plus an administrative charge of £20 per item. Return all loan items as soon as you can to allow other readers to use the books. When the Hospital Library is closed, books may be left in the secure book return bin outside the library door.

Please do not pass on material you have borrowed to someone else. You are responsible for it until it is returned to the library.

Finding help

There is an Information Desk in the library where you can request help with using any aspect of the library service. You can also ring the library (internal ext. 4270) or send an e-mail to [email protected] to receive help and advice. Information about library facilities can also be found on the Library site on the hospital's Intranet. You will also receive an induction from your hospital librarian.

Details of the books and journals in the hospital's library can be found in the SWIMS catalogue. This catalogue covers NHS libraries in the South West region; with information about your library found by using the library's code: D02. Library staff can help with use of the catalogue.

It is important to attend your timetabled university IT and library sessions, as they are designed to give you the skills to carry out research for your assignments. To complement these sessions, you can arrange subject advice on a one-to-one basis at Weston Library through your faculty library team.

Any enquiries concerning the resources on the Bournemouth University Library web pages should be addressed to the HSS faculty library team. Alternatively, you can use the Library Chat service.
