All of our healthcare courses delivered through the Faculty of Health & Social Sciences involve work placements, which may mean you have to travel to various locations. You will be advised of your predominant area of placement practice, however please be aware that your placements may cover a wide geographical location and you are likely to undertake placements in more than one area during your course.
For more detailed information about your placement areas visit our placement pages.
Being a car driver/owner is beneficial to help you access your placements easily, but it is not essential. Placement allocations are made primarily to ensure students receive the breadth of experience required to meet the professional body requirements for qualification and ensure a well-rounded education and experience. The university works closely with our practice partners to ensure a variety of experiences are available for our students. This means not all of your placements will be close to term time accommodation and, occasionally, a placement may require you to live away from home. The NHS Bursaries office will inform you of which travel and accommodation expenses you may be able to claim back as a result of block placements away from home/Bournemouth. Find out more on our NHS finance page.
