We are proud to welcome students from Germany onto our undergraduate, postgraduate, research and top-up courses. For any queries you may have about applying to study at BU, we have a dedicated International Admissions Team who are always happy to help.

When you apply for one of our courses, you can choose whether to do so directly, or to submit your application form via your local representative, who will liaise with us throughout the application process. For a list of our official BU representatives in Germany, visit our international representatives webpage.

We will help you with your application to study at BU, but if you’d like more general advice about the UK education system, visas, scholarships or the variety of courses on offer, you should contact the British Council in Germany, or browse the UKCISA website.

Funding your master’s degree in the UK

If you are a german student wishing to study a postgraduate course in the UK, the German government BAföG allows for one year combined loan/grant to make studying in the UK easier.

German students can apply for up to €5,600 towards tuition fees, as well as up to just under €1,000 a month to cover living expenses for one-year Master’s programmes in the UK.

Although the BAföG programme is means-tested, the thresholds for taking it abroad are higher than for studying in Germany, so it is always worth checking whether you are eligible.
