Developing Plans and Policies

In this unit, you will develop a systematic understanding of Disaster Management, including a critical awareness of the national and international current best practices in advancing national disaster management plans and policies.

Further areas of this unit include:

• Examining international definitions and concepts relating to disaster management
• Best practices in risk reduction by identifying, assessing, reducing and preparing to respond to potential impacts from various hazards
• Reflecting on your ability to work with a team of peers and mentors to complete a strategic planning exercise to develop a national disaster management plan, involving government ministries, emergency and military agenices, as well as public and private organisations.
