Bournemouth University’s media production courses have gained International Moving Image Society (IMIS) accreditation.
The accreditation is given in recognition of industry-standard teaching, appropriateness of content, resources and delivery in the context of the employability of graduates in responsible positions within the moving image industries.
The IMIS is a long established and respected professional body, uniquely placed to assure, encourage and support industry relevance in media production courses.
IMIS accreditation also includes links to the moving image industries; students will be able to attend events for free and network with other 'new entrants' to the industry, from courses of an equivalent standard, in person, rather than just online.
The Head of BU’s Media Production Department, Ashley Woodfall, said: “We are very proud that our world-leading production courses have been fully accredited by the International Moving Image Society, an organisation that represents the media industries in the UK and globally. IMIS really understand the value of bringing together the voice of industry with those educating the next generation of media professionals.”
The BU courses that have received IMIS accreditation are:
- BA (Hons) Film
- BA (Hons) Media Production
- BA (Hons) Scriptwriting for Film and Television
- BA (Hons) Television Production
- MA Cinematography for Film and Television
- MA Directing Film and Television
- MA Post Production Editing
- MA Producing Film and Television
- MA Scriptwriting
- MA Sound Design for Film and Television
For a number of years, a range of Bournemouth University’s media production courses were accredited by ScreenSkills (previously Creative Skillset).
Following a review process, BU has decided to take our accreditation in a different direction with IMIS –this change in accreditation partners ensures BU's courses go from strength to strength and remain highly industry-focused.
BU continues to have a relationship with ScreenSkills, and the university's animation courses continue to be accredited by them.
BU will be hosting a range of events in July for prospective students about the courses on offer, including the newly accredited media production courses. You can find out more in the BU events listings.
