With A Level results day approaching, thousands of students are nervously waiting to find out if they’ve got into their choice of university and degree course.
But if your grades aren’t what you were expecting, you’ve changed your mind about your course, or you’ve decided to go to university after all – there are still lots of options available through a process called Clearing.
Clearing gives students who do not hold an offer a chance of finding a university place for September.
Bournemouth University has over 100 courses available in Clearing this year, ranging from animation to journalism, healthcare to business and management.
BU’s UK Student Recruitment Manager Matthew Usher said, “Clearing presents a massive opportunity for young people. It can change the whole course of your future career, as you make a decision to go to university and further your qualifications.
“So, on A-level results day, no matter how you are feeling, keep calm and give us a call – there are plenty of options still available for you and you could be joining us this September.”
BSc (Hons) Psychology student Sorcha Homer came to BU through Clearing.
She said: “Coming to Bournemouth was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. I’ve made amazing friends and amazing memories.
“If I didn’t go through Clearing I don’t know where I would be now, but I don’t mind or care because right now, with the help of Clearing, I’m exactly where I should be.”
Students can also use the Clearing process to change courses or universities if they feel it is no longer right for them, even if they’ve met the conditions of their offer.
If results are better than predicted, students can also make changes to their choice of university or course through a process called Adjustment.
If students have met and exceeded the offer made to them by their firm choice university, they can see if there are any vacancies on other courses with higher entry requirements.
If students try Adjustment, but don't find anything, they’ll still keep the course they were expected on when they received their results.
Bournemouth University has a downloadable Clearing toolkit and advice online or you can call 01202 966777 to speak to someone and find out more about the courses on offer.
