An array of free digital-based, educational and creative events are set to take place during the third Festival of Learning at Bournemouth University.
The Festival of Learning runs from 11 – 17 July, and is packed with events, workshops and talks for tech-savvy minds - as well as those interested in developing new skills in all things digital.
The art of computer programming will be explored in the event Learn to programme your own computer games, where attendees will learn the basics of the tool Scratch to create animations. Open to all ages, it takes place on Sunday 12 July at 11.30am.
Event organiser, Neil Vaughan said: “The skills learned will enable participants to create their own online interactive games, computer graphics, and audio effects.
“The games you create can be shared online so that your friends and family can play them.”
The (Apple) Watch this space talk on Wednesday 15 July at 6pm will offer an insight into the future of wearable and app development.
It has been organised by Bournemouth-based digital agency 3 SIDED CUBE, who have experience in designing and developing apps for the Apple Watch.
Dan Gough, a designer at 3 SIDED CUBE, said: “Some of the best education you can get is from people who have industry experience, and because the digital industry moves at a lightning speed, we'll be sharing information that isn't even on a syllabus yet.
"We're very excited to be sharing our Apple Watch and Watchkit knowledge as part of the Festival. Our talk will incorporate both app design and development, so there’s something in there for everyone! No advanced knowledge is required to enjoy what we hope will be a fun and interesting talk. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain some first-hand knowledge, no tech fan or gadget geek should miss this!"
The Bournemouth PechaKucha night taking place as part of the Festival will also offer the chance to meet creative people, share ideas and network informally on Saturday 11 July, from 6pm – 8pm.
Festival of Learning events are free and open to all, running throughout the day and evening at BU’s Talbot Campus and locations across Dorset.
