The Institute of Medical Imaging and Visualisation (IMIV) sits within the HSS, in the Department of Medical Science & Public Health and is part of a major investment in Medical Sciences. 

This is an exciting opportunity to become a core member of the Institute of Medical Imaging and Visualisation (IMIV) team, working closely with the MRI Business and Operations Manager, Head of the Institute, other team members, and visiting faculty.  

We are seeking a motivated, skilled MRI radiographer, proficient in conducting MRI scans and providing exceptional patient care. You will be working with a Siemens Lumina 3T scanner and have the opportunity to deputise for the MRI Manager when required.

The ideal candidate will perform a wide variety of MRI examinations, both research and clinical. This would be an ideal opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable experience to further develop their career. The successful candidate will have a patient-focused attitude and be able to work flexibly within the team. We are looking for someone who can build an excellent rapport with patients and customers (both internal and external) and continue to provide high standards of care and service.

The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years MRI experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills and be IT literate.

Duties:

To provide professional, caring and high-quality MRI scanning services and to ensure the privacy and safety of all patients and research participants at the Bournemouth University Institute of Medical Imaging and Visualisation.

  • Perform MRI scans as part of research projects following a strict imaging protocol.
  • Undertake MRI scans in line with existing clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Have a sound understanding of (at least) intermediate MR physics and be comfortable adapting imaging parameters when appropriate.
  • Be competent in operating the MRI scanners and peripheral equipment such as pump injectors, patient physiological monitoring and fMRI stimulus/response system.
  • Take ownership of governance activities such as audits and personal development.
  • Assist in the maintenance and quality control of imaging equipment.
  • Completing competency assessments.
  • Share knowledge and clinical experience with the wider team to support each other’s growth and development.

Knowledge & Skills

The ideal MRI Radiographer candidate will have:

  • HCPC registration.
  • A degree or equivalent in Radiography.
  • Post-graduate qualification in MRI (not essential).
  • Extensive experience (2 years+) in MRI, with fMRI experience being desirable (although not essential).
  • Experience with 3T scanning.
  •  Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • A high level of professionalism and technical standard of work
  • IV cannulation skills
  • Evidence of Clinical competency
  • Able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills including time management.
  • Ability to be innovative and forward thinking, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Strong on attention to detail
