The latest episodes of Time Team will be based at Dorset’s Wytch Farm, near Corfe Castle.
The episodes will be led by BU’s Dr Derek Pitman, Head of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, and Dr Lawrence Shaw, a Visiting Research Fellow at BU and Lead Historic Environment Advisor for Forestry England. The pair are part of the Time Team presenting line-up.
The dig will take place at the site in Purbeck, near to the impressive ruins of Corfe Castle where Derek and Lawrence discovered two Iron Age burials back in 2021 and will look to shed light on what could be hiding under the soil, and what it might tell us about the history of the region and the people who lived there.
The dig will be covered in three parts on the Time Team YouTube channel:
- Day One: Friday 17th May, 7pm BST
- Day Two: Saturday 18th May, 7pm BST
- Day Three: Sunday 19th May, 7pm BST
Dr Derek Pitman said, “Ever since we first discovered the site I have wanted to go back and do a full investigation. It was a dream come true to bring the might of Time Team to our project and the discoveries were truly amazing! Purbeck has a huge, hidden archaeological story and I love that we get to share that with the world”.
Dr Lawrence Shaw added, “It was also an honour to host Time Team’s 30th birthday celebration and bring together the team, old and new. The site is very special and gives a unique window into Iron Age and Roman life in Dorset”.
The programmes will mark the 30th anniversary of the show and will feature other BU students and academics who will help to excavate and examine the finds at the site.
A preview of the three-part series can be found on the Time Team YouTube channel.
