Simulation-based education

Our vision is to inspire learning through simulation, build knowledge through research and evaluation, and disseminate and support the advancing education of the future healthcare workforce.

Our aims

The gift of time: wherever possible, the adoption of new technologies should enable staff to gain more time to care, promoting deeper interaction with patients. Working with key stakeholders, we are contributing to the development of a capable and adaptable multi-profession workforce by co-designing systems to optimise their practice and wellbeing.

For resourcing of simulated placement to be given equitable priority to other learning activities and where appropriate to be designed in such a way that the learning outcomes can be mapped to programme requirements for practice learning and eligible for payment of placement tariff from funding bodies.

We aim to ensure that the Fusion between education, research and practice truly takes place and students and staff can get involved in simulation at every level. Some examples of simulation on different programmes include:

With practical learning being integral to our health and social care degrees, we provide practice simulation suites to mirror both clinical and community workplace settings to provide a safe learning environment.

Our £48 million Bournemouth Gateway Building was completed in 2020 to house our purpose-built health and social care learning and simulation facilities. The facilities include three hospital wards, a maternity suite, an operating theatre, an ambulance simulation suite, a community home setting and various other flexible skills simulation rooms.

Interactive webinar series are regularly offered to addresses technology and humanity issues in healthcare.
