Did you know that we use over 100,000 disposable coffee cups on BU campuses each year? These cups are not recyclable due to their complex plastic and paper mix and the difficulties of contamination from liquids.
We want to encourage you to avoid using disposable cups. Therefore, the Sustainability team have worked with Chartwells to design a new Returnable Cup Scheme. You can join the scheme by purchasing a reusable cup for £3.95 from Chartwells outlets in the Atrium Gallery, The Sir Michael Cobham Library and Fusion, Poole Gateway and Bournemouth Gateway Buildings.
We have purchased these cups from a company called Circular & Co who specialise in encouraging circular behaviour to eliminate waste.
How does it work?
Keep your cup for as long as you like or return it in exchange for a clean/new cup. When you hand over your cup for cleaning, you’ll be given a token. Just hand over the token when you want a new one or are purchasing your next beverage for a replacement.
This means you can avoid washing your own dirty reusable cup, as you can just swap one of our new reusable cups for a clean one! You'll also save 30p on every hot drink you buy with the reusable cup scheme.
This scheme is available at both Talbot and Lansdowne campuses but please note this scheme is currently not available in SUBU cafes.
